RWGM - Fixed Wire Testing
23rd September 2018
In January 2017, after a successful pilot programme, Scottish Water awarded RWGM a 3-year contract to deliver the Fixed Wire Testing (FWT) programme. This contract is one of the largest testing contracts to be awarded in Scotland.
The FWT contract is a branch of the Planned Maintenance RWGM deliver alongside Maintenance Scheduled Tasks (MST). It can be seen as an M.O.T for the electrical condition of a site and involves the testing of Fixed Wires from MCCs and Distribution Boards to field end equipment or circuitry.
The FWT program identifies any electrical faults, deterioration over time or poor workmanship which would result in the asset being classed as being non-compliant with current 17th edition BS7671 regulations. The benefit of FWT is to ensure the safeguarding of all personnel and workforce on Scottish Water sites, ensuring their electrical safety is not compromised as well as guaranteeing electrical compliance according to regulations.
RWGM have visited and tested over 3,500 sites over the length and breadth of Scotland. Over 100,000 circuits have been tested with 76,000 observations being identified. Observations are split into 4 categories C1, C2, C3 and FI. C1 being High Risk and C3 being Low Risk Improvement recommended. 307 of the observations found being categorised in the class ‘C1 - Danger Present. Risk of Injury. Immediate remedial action required’.
Upon finding a C1, immediate remediation is undertaken, from procuring and installing replacement materials to engaging with SSE or SPEN in order to escalate issues that may be with the incoming supply. RWGM currently has a 100% rectification rate of C1 High Risk observations.
